He first took the Ship Erfprins from The Hague to Cape Good Hope and then the
Ship Admiraal de Ruiter from Cape Good Hope to Colombo, Sri Lanka, where
he arrived in 1767.
He was tamboer (drummer) for the VOC until 8th May 1773.
He then became a soldier.
